Cheryl McGirr, Founding Attorney

A native Texan, I grew up in the Houston Metroplex, where I earned undergraduate degrees in both legal and educational fields. At Baylor Law School I actively participated in Moot Court and Mock Trial competitions. After receiving my law degree from that institution in 2004 I worked in the Dallas/Fort Worth area as well as East Texas before opening my own Austin-area practice in 2005.

Bar Admission

Licensed to practice law in the state of Texas since 2004, I have practiced in Tarrant, Wood, Polk, Parker, Williamson, Travis and Harris counties. I currently practice primarily in Williamson and surrounding counties and represent both plaintiffs and defendants.

Practice Areas

Family law represents a large portion of my practices, with issues such as: Divorce, Custody, Child Support, Adoption, Breach of Contract, Personal Injury, Consumer Rights and Commercial litigation

I also provide estate planning and the drafting of wills, trusts and other critical documents in preparation for life’s challenges.

Kama Harris, Associate Attorney

Kama Harris attended the University of Texas at Austin for her undergraduate degrees. She graduated in 2008 with a BBA Finance and minor in Psychology.
She went on to law school at Texas Tech University School of Law where she graduated cum laude, or “with honors” in 2011.

Criminal Defense & Family Law
Since passing the bar exam in 2011, Kama has practiced mainly criminal defense. She started at the Regional Public Defender for Capital Cases, where she worked on capital murder cases. On these cases, the State was seeking the death penalty for her clients. In this job, Kama worked as a mitigation specialist, focusing on gathering information and looking into the lives of her clients in order to show a jury that her clients were deserving of a punishment lesser than the death penalty.
Kama also spent nearly 2 years working as an attorney at the Burnet County Public Defender’s Office where she was their First Assistant Public Defender. She worked primarily on Felony and Juvenile criminal defense cases. This experience allowed her to gain more trial experience, and to handle a wider array of cases.
Since joining McGirr Law, Kama has been trained in the intricacies of Family Law cases, and now practices both Criminal Defense and Family law.
Kama is married and lives in Round Rock with her husband Sean and their cats. She enjoys volunteering at a local non-profit that works with at-risk youth in the high school age range, as well as painting, yoga, and occasionally participating in a triathlon with her husband.
